Conclusion

As a future speech-language pathologist (SLP) I will have to write a variety of documents pertaining to my clients, superiors, and professors. This class has not only taught me how to write professionally, but has given me skills I can transfer to other genres of writing. I will use these skills when writing Individual Education Program (IEP) documents and research for graduate and doctoral programs. Prior to enrolling in this course, I did not know how to properly format a brochure or how to create and complete a formal report, or analyze websites based off a set of criteria. The correspondence project, brochure, press release, and formal report all tested my writing abilities in various ways, but I am a more rounded writer for having completed them. Not only did my writing skills improve, but my collaboration and presentation skills did as well.  Through the formal report I was able to work on my presentation skills. I learned how to dress professionally and how to adapt to sudden changes during presentations. I get nervous when I present projects, but I had to leave my comfort zone behind so I would not let my teammates down. All of the skills I learned in this course can be transferred to my other courses. I have done more presentations and group work this semester than any other. The skills I learned in this class allowed me to be a better teammate for my collaborative projects in my other courses. I am thankful for the opportunity to have taken this course. I am excited to use these new skills in my future classes both in undergraduate and graduate programs as well as in the work force.
