Correspondence

Reflection

This assignment was my first real introduction into the world of professional writing. I have written documents in block letter format before, but this project opened my eyes to the specifics of different genres of profession writing. Through the bad news and persuasive letters, I learned how write in plain English and create professional documents using standard formats and layouts. The bad news letter taught me how be courteous and show concern for the client without telling them no or apologizing. I have always known general rules concerning courtesy, but I was unaware that of the negative connotations associated with apologetic vocabulary use. This assignment also taught me when to make documents “you” centered or “I” centered. For example, in the bad news letter I stated “I have personally recorded your concern and will expedite it to the manager of Calvin’s Road Construction…”. This shows that their concern is important to me and I am doing everything in my power to fix the problem. The persuasive letter taught me how to do professional research and find data that will help me to persuade investors I am now able to create content for each type of professional document.I faced a few challenges while creating these documents. I had to review block letter format several times and learn how to correctly format both documents. I also had to overcome wording difficulties because I struggled with making my documents clear and concise. I overcame these difficulties by using the PowerPoints and examples provided to us during class along with the text book.
