Introduction to Social Inequality and Difference was a very important class which spoke about the issues which go on within society not only from a race standpoint but as well talks about gender and disability. This taught me how to look at everything differently because everyone is different but that does not make them any less or their issues any less. As well, the Race and Racism course I took showed me how there are certain issues which are targeted at specific groups and how this can be majorly overlooked by society and the things people do. Modern Social Problems looked at all problems within sociology as a whole but as well looks at the different types of inequality at all social levels.

Race is a very impactful issue in society and has been for centuries. This is something which is often overlooked by society and often provides issues within not only society but between individuals. Although yes, it was something which I did think about, I did not think about it from an academic standpoint and looking through facts and issues within society that effect racism as well as what racism effects. It gives me a better perspective of how to help others with the issues which society presents to them although I may have not lived them or something similar.

Class is a very important thing within the social system for this is how society functions. Although it is something which I have looked at in the past, the class introduction to social inequality and difference showed me every aspect of class and the issues which go on within this. It showed me the differences in the classes and how they rely on one another to function. This as well did not make me look at just my class and the upper class but as well looking at the classes in between and how they function. It as well showed me how to treat certain people based on how circumstances may have effected their lifestyles.

Gender is as well an issue which has been apparent for centuries within society, especially in America. This is something which is not only unequal but has been unequal even after change has been forced upon it. With being a female, there has always been inequality within gender presented within my life but I try not to think about it as much for there is only so much I can do about it. Learning about how these issues effect others has led me to think about the things which can be done as well as carefully choosing what I will do with my life. I have looked at these issues within my Modern Social Problems class and have learned the different issues females face or the issues males face which the other gender may not see.

Disability is often an issue because it does not just look at someone who is physically disabled or mentally disabled visibly but as well others where you may not be able to tell. As well as this, individuals are often looked down upon when they have disabilities or look at themselves differently than what others might. Introduction to social inequality and difference spoke on how disabilities effect everyone differently but they are not just limited to what is viable on the outside but as well on the inside. This as well made me realize how hard it is from a family standpoint as well as a job and financial standpoint and how to properly treat people with specific issues.

Sexuality is an issue which is often presented within society but not something which is a violent thing but as well prevents individuals from living the life they want to live. I learned about this in my modern social problems class and learned about the different issues which individuals deal with when dealing with their sexuality. This is something which can change how an individual lives their lives as well as who they associate with. Not only does this do that but it may affect their job status, family relationships, and relationships with the people around them. This made me look at sexuality differently from a more sociological standpoint rather than personal or just listening to others.

Although taking these courses and seeing the issues which appear in different individuals lives changing my views, this does not effect my career. Although my career of cyber security is looking for females, this defies the gender norms within society and within specific jobs. Within my job and career path, there are not many disparities and inequalities. I chose a job field as well where I would get just as equal of an opportunity than others even with financial situations and academic situations; including gender and ethnicity as well.

Sociology of family violence was about violence within society as well as families and how it is not always looked at as an issue. Introduction to social inequality and difference taught me how different people experience inequality and as well how society treats them. Sociological theory spoke on how sociology came to be as well as the different ideas people have had over time and how they relate to everyday life and how sociologists think. Marriage and the family spoke about divorce within the families, how life changes after marriage, and how this affects different people based on situations. Sociology of education spoke about schools and how these forms of an institution develop individuals as well as how they influence their actions

Change in writing: 

I have been able to create more ideas within my writings knowing about sociology and the concepts which go into it. I did not know much about sociology before I took the courses but compared to my first essays which focused on basic issues where I did not put in as much effort, my ideas have gotten stronger. I know more about the different social issues but also more about how society functions. I learned how to create deeper thoughts within my writings as well as how to develop better papers. I have created better structure within my papers as well with writing better as well as providing more information. It as well has helped me use ideas from other classes to develop papers for specific ideas in different classes. Writing these papers has allowed me to understand better what goes into writing as well as how to develop ideas properly and going in depth rather than just writing basics. I have gotten better on structure and writing more in general rather than meeting bare requirements within the papers. I realized that I need to create better structured papers to prepare myself for the world outside of university and prepare myself to have a job. The job I want will include writing and I need to write well to be able to express ideas properly as well as create well written material. I am able to easily come up with ideas for paper with understanding more about how society works and what is involved in the different aspects of society. 

How concepts have influenced me: 

I did not think about how different forms of institutions influence the way I live until I took multiple classes about the different institutions. Although I knew schools had a large influence on the way individuals grow up, I did not realize how much of an influence they had on them. Not only do they learn things within this, but this is where they are taught their ways of thinking. Although there are other outside institutional factors, this is where most opinions and ideas come from. After I took classes on education and looked at how those institutions influenced me, I looked back and focused on what I really learned and how that influenced me. I attended multiple institutions for schooling growing up and had a large amount of different views on subjects which helped me develop my own and use different ideas in my lifestyle. 

I as well come from a family filled with divorce in many aspects, and taking classes which focus on the family institutions helped me realize why people are the way they are in marriages. Learning about how marriages and relationships work helped me figure out what I want in life and how I view these different things and what goes into them. I did not realize what went into family issues and how this may affect lives outside of family such as work and social life.

Learning how institutions influence how people think about inequality as well as race changed the way I view different things. Many people are influenced by inequalities but not just by race but gender as well. I did not realize the issues it raised in the workplace and other aspects of life for people. Using concepts in my job:

I can use the different things I have learned in the classes which I have taken to better understand how institutions work and the different aspects of them. I am looking to do something in cybersecurity and knowing about institutions and how they work can help me think about how people are doing things and why they would be doing these things. I am doing something to better society, and within that, I am watching for what people are doing in a larger aspect rather than individual. I can use what I have learned in these classes to understand as well how to apply ideas to the way I will live my life as well as balance my job and at home life. With knowing about how institutions work, I will better be able to organize my job as well and keep track of everything I need to do. I will also know how to deal with other people and communicate better based on knowing how society and people work. It will help me to be able to relate to people who are going to be part of my work and better understand what they are thinking and how they are doing their jobs as well. I will be able to better work efficiently as well as understand how to do different things in different ways. This also has shown me how to deal with different situations and keep calm when things do not go the way I may want them to.

Change in writing style

Over time, my writing style has changed after I took these courses to be more research based and different than it was. I used to write based more on emotion rather than fact or research which is provided. I create my writing to be more factual rather than based on smaller things. I have learned papers need to be more based on facts and provide more information rather than writing. It is important to put in information and facts based on what professors would want as a way to back up ideas which are being provided within the papers.  I as well research more for papers and do more writing based on what I find rather than making things longer and adding unnecessary writing into it. This as well has helped me clean up my writings and make them easier for professors to understand and read. It helps me to keep it in order as well and provide a more scientific aspect to the issues and situations which I am writing about. It as well can help me form better ideas and better papers based on this. I as well have a better understanding on how to write a paper as well as providing better wording for specific things I want to say or express within my writings. This helps me express my points better and create more reliable and accurate content within my papers to make them credible. 

Courses and Content

I took various classes which have used methodology within it, even if it is not a main part of the class. Methods and research methods are a large part of the sociology world and research. A class I took which was my main methodology course was research methods. Here, we studied research methods and how the adapt to the sociology and criminal justice world as well as ethics which go into research methods. Within this, I took a similar class which connected with it, Stats for the Social Sciences which taught me statistics for research methods as well as the introduction to research methods. Another course which I took was Senior Seminar in Criminology. Within this, we talked about research as well and how this is important within a job. I as well took Criminological theory and Sociology of Education which talked a bit on research and methods.

Major Aspects in Sociology

The major aspects within methodology tend to be ethics, data collection, data analysis, type of research, and content. These are different things which are important within the social research process but I believe one of the main ones which is important is understanding ethics within research and within research methods. This is important to understand because there are different things which you cannot do but may think it is okay to do without understanding the issues within it. 

As well as understanding the rights and wrongs of social research and methods, it is important to know this to be able to conduct proper research and provide the right sampling and data for the study. Another important aspect is data collection and data analysis. These go hand in hand with each other as well as the content which is provided from the research. Data collection is important because there are specific ways which go into the methodology of this and what is going to work best for the research and provide the best data for data analysis. If the data collection is not good, the rest of the research will not matter because it may not be reliable. Since data collection is one of the most important parts, there is a large amount which goes into it as well based on sampling and going out to get the data samples. This then leads to data analysis; this is important to understand and know how to do or the data will not come out as accurate and the content will be bad.

 There as well must be good intent within the research and there must be a purpose for the research. Not having good intent within the research may cause ethical problems within it as well as a lack of correct content and valid/ accrediable/ accurate content which is being provided on the research. This is looking at the type of research it is as well as the participants and sample process which are chosen for the research. This is as well looking at how the methods are used within the research world and how these apply to the research itself.

Skills and Knowledge

My job will be in cybersecurity and I will be using research and methods a large amount within my job to help me. This will be something I will use a large amount based on my job. I will be conducting research as well on ways to stop certain things from happening as well as collecting data to provide reports to the people who will be higher than me on ranking within my company. I can use my skills and knowledge which I have learned to apply specific methods to certain situations and certain issues which I will be collecting data on as well as providing data analysis on. I will also provide data analysis of issues within the company or government as well which will tie into the content I will be providing them and how it is to their standards. I as well will have to look at a large amount of statistics within my job and the way these statistics tie into cybersecurity and keeping the company secure. As well as looking at red flags which may pop up within the statistics and numbers as well as the data which I will be analyzing. I will be looking at how the data affects my job and the people I am working for in a negative way or a positive way based on the data. I as well will be looking at how, if this data is negative, how can I make it positive and how it will better the job.
