Throughout my time at Longwood University I performed with the Longwood Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Kevin Callihan. While I am primarily a pianist, I performed on the bass clarinet while in the wind symphony. Our concert season is characterized by a few major performances, notably convocation, the Longwood Holiday Dinner, and graduation, with a few other performances in-between these. The music performed by the Longwood Wind Symphony is standard wind-band repertoire.
In conjunction with the Longwood Wind Symphony, I also performed with the Longwood Clarinet Ensemble. Due to it’s smaller size every member really had to pull their own weight, and it was obvious when someone was not working hard enough. I found this ensemble more challenging but in a good way. I have performed with other clarinet ensembles in the past, notably the Youth Orchestra of Central Virginia Clarinet Ensemble, and performed with the Longwood Clarinet Ensemble was extremely enjoyable.
Attached is a recording of the 2019 Longwood Holiday Dinner, as well as various pictures of the Longwood Wind Symphonies performances.
