Cleanup on Gross Creek

August 14, 2018

By: Kody Scordellis and fellow students

I chose this day because it was during my first week at Longwood during Honors Retreat. This assignment of cleaning up the trash at Gross Creek was a huge impact on me as it introduced me to my first couple friends at Longwood, gave me my first opportunity towards the community service, and introduced me to many Longwood officials. My team and I had spent the whole morning cleaning up waste and trash in the woods and near the creek. The image was our overall collection gathered. It felt good to take out so much trash that was littered or abandoned and surprising at how much was there.

Special Olympics Volunteer Help (February, 2020)

AT Department and myself

I volunteered one Saturday morning for 6 hours to help monitor and observe the special olympics held at Longwood University. In this event, I watched the athletes lift weights and break records while on standby in case of a medical emergency. The atmosphere and environment was very friendly and energetic and I loved being there. Seeing all of the athletic trainers on duty and the other medical professionals being in uniform and on standby was really eye opening. I was very fortunate enough to work this event before we evacuated the school.
