I took English 165 to fulfill the foundation level in civitae as well as pass the gate for my major. I decided to take the honors section because I thought it would challenge me a little more than the regular 165 would have. It definitely challenged me a lot and pushed me way out of my comfort zone.
This class made me really think about my writing and ways to improve it. I came into this class confident in my writing and ready to crush this class. While I did well in the course, it didn’t go the way I wanted to at all. I was shocked with how much I didn’t know about writing and how much I improved over the semester. I am very grateful for all of the knowledge I gained this semester in this course as it really helped prepare me for all of my future courses. The course mainly focused on WAC (Writing Across the Curriculum) which is a very useful guide when writing for many subjects at the collegiate level. I learned so much about how writing in English is different from the writing style for Biology and vice versa. I think this course helped me grow the most out of all of my classes from my first year and would definitely say that I gained the most from it despite the many challenges.
The artifact that I chose for English 165 is my Academic Article. This was one of the last projects we worked on this semester and it challenged me the most. I had never written anything as complex as an Academic Article, so this was very difficult for me. I ended up doing pretty well on it and grew a lot since my first assignments in that course. I think that while it is far from perfect, that it will be good to look back on in the future.
