I chose to take this course because it fulfilled the Aesthetic Expressions pillar for my degree. I chose the 3D design section because I thought it would challenge me and force me to devote time to my art.
I found this course to be a struggle at times due to the course-load I had this semester. I was taking more rigorous courses for my major as well as for civitae. This course was a lot more time consuming than I thought it would be. The amount of time that I had to devote to my sculptures was a lot more than I had ever expected. In the past, all of the art I had done was paper based (drawing, painting, etc.) and took a lot less time. For this course I had to think about the materials and how I could manipulate them to fit the project. This led me to have a lot of struggles with time management. Although I didn’t love that factor, it ultimately helped me in other courses and future courses. I always struggled with time management and this class really helped me plan my days better to keep up with my deadlines.
The project I chose to include as my artifact was my final project. I feel like it really shows the time period I was in. During this project I had just gotten home from the Spring 2021 semester and had made it through an entire year without getting COVID-19. I tested positive a week after being at home with my family, and was in the middle of finals. Completing this project was difficult because I needed certain materials but was unable to get out quarantine. I ended up having a neighbor leave the necessary materials outside my house, but it was really stressful for me as I thought I was going to get points off for missing material. It taught me how to problem solve in a really difficult situation and that friends are really important in difficult situations.
