Community is showing a deep love for society and those around you. It is also showing support and aid to those who may need it. Community is also the connection you make with those sharing the same environment and the bond that is created between that society. As a college student, I seek to strengthen my community, my college town, and my fellow college students as well as supporting my hometown and its needs.
As a member of the women’s lacrosse team, we collected canned goods, nonperishable foods, laundry items, and hygiene items to be donated to Elwood’s closet. Many members of the team brought goods to donate as we also encouraged parents and fans to bring goods to donate. This was a great event to be apart of and it was a great feeling to be able to help out the Longwood community. Our team and athletics as a whole continue to take part in community events and donation. Many athletic events have had SAAC collecting money and other donations for different causes. All the teams also participated in Relay For Life with SAAC. It is great to be apart of a program that puts such emphasis on involvement in the community!

As a Coach for Crush Lacrosse Club in Maryland, I seek to support my players through my love of the game and help guide them to their goals and aspirations. Sports were a huge part of my character development growing up and the start to my bond with my community. Giving back to my community back home and the sports programs I was once apart of is a great experience and even greater seeing the joy and excitement on the players faces as we continue to grow and learn about lacrosse each and every day. I am lucky to spend my summers teaching these young girls about lacrosse even though summer 2020 was very difficult due to COVID-19. We were doing zoom lacrosse sessions while also encouraging the players to work on their own and see their own personal growth. I have loved seeing the girls amaze themselves because of their strides they can make even when being away from their teammates and coaches.
This photo was taken on July 31, 2019 at Cedar Lane Park in Maryland after our team participated in a very fun lacrosse tournament.
