This class fulfilled the Behavioral and Social Perspectives requirement. The focus of this course was on how love, as well as other things, contribute to relationships of love, sex, and friendship between people. In order to better understand these topics, readings were assigned throughout the course from famous works of literature as well as philosophical works and journals. Being a discussion based class, we would read the readings and come to class the next day to delve deeper into the true meaning of the piece. As we moved through the topics of friendship and erotic love, we were tasked with writing a paper on each in order to demonstrate our own understanding of the topics discussed. Our final big assignment of the course was a research paper in which we wrote either a letter to a friend or a wedding toast, using our knowledge from the course to give the best advice.

Stella Morris, Spring 2020: Above is my research paper from this course. In this assignment, I wrote a letter to a friend giving them advice on how to make good friends and why friendships are so important to have in life.
Reflection: This class was one of my favorite classes that I have taken thus far during my time at Longwood University. I found that I thoroughly enjoyed our everyday in class discussions as opposed to the lecture style that most professors prefer. While I am a relatively shy person and do not normally speak up in class, I felt confident and comfortable in contributing to our discussions; even when classes moved online with Zoom video calls. I also found the assigned readings much more interesting than normal text book chapters. Even the final research paper was different than any other paper I had written before, as it was styled like a letter to a friend or a wedding toast in which you gave advice using sources to support your points. Structured differently, this class was a breath of fresh air that allowed my brain to work in other ways than it did during my other classes.
