“Philosophy come from the Greek word Philos meaning love and Sophia meaning wisdom. What is philosophy: the love of wisdom. There you go!”
I enjoyed my philosophy class for a number of reasons, chief among them being the entertaining and sometimes absurd philosophical discussions we held. Debating on the existence of free will and predeterminism with quirky stories about bodyguards inadvertently turning on their leader through mystical predetermined actions or hypnosis at the hands of a devious anarchist made being in class at 9AM worth it. One of the most valuable lessons though was our work with extracting valid arguments from philosophical statements. The usefulness of extracting legitimate and valid arguments from rhetoric is not limited to philosophical uses. In this day and age of constant debates it is important to be able to pick out functional arguments so one will know which ideas make sense and which are unreliable.
Below is an example of my work extracting valid arguments from rhetoric.
