HONS 321: A Sustainable Brain

Sustainability is one of if not the most important facets of our efforts to curb climate change. It is integral to the long term survival of our planet and our society, and having a course in which we study and investigate that truly was a fun experience. Unfortunately I had a tough time keeping my stress down and keeping up with this class, but nonetheless I found the experience to be quite enriching. Our podcast assignment truly made researching sustainability exciting. If I’ve taken something from this class it would have to be a sustainable behavior change. While doing research for my project I came across a web browser called Ecosia. Ecosia is an eco browser that plants 1 tree for every 45 searches. I was immediately hooked and changed all of my internet browsers to Ecosia. As of 5:00PM on 22-may/2021 I have made 2218 searches and planted just about 49 trees. My enthusiasm for Ecosia was so great that I made it the focus of my research podcast. Though I wanted to interview students at universities with active, student-led Ecosia campaigns I was unable to set up an interview in time, but my friend Danielle was happy to help. I interviewed her for my podcast below:

The podcast was too big to be uploaded, but I plan to cut it into pieces so it will fit.

Maybe in the next few semesters I’ll try to bring Ecosia to Longwood.
