HONS 295 – Popular Music and Culture

I wish I could forget taking this course so I could take it again.
I loved this class for its subject material and especially for the creativity involved in our coursework.

We studied popular artists with a special focus on women and LGBTQ+ artists and how their music expresses their identities as musicians. My favorite topic was art rock, the combination of popular music with forms of higher art such as symphonic orchestration, paintings, or theatre and film. I’m a big fan of progressive rock, a genre which is strongly linked to art rock phenomena. I chose to write an essay on the art film All This and World War II, a failed endeavor that combined Beatles music with World War footage.

This is a link to my essay.
