COMM 240 – Digital Editing

This class was part of my communication studies minor. I found it rather challenging for a number of reasons, mostly for the fact that I intended to focus more on public relations and Digital Editing focuses on the technical side of communications. In this class we study cameras, filming techniques, editing software, news formatting. True to Professor Halliday’s words we will never view media the same after studying how it’s made.
What challenged me in this course was the technical aspect of the coursework. Though I was doing well in class I felt like I wasn’t in the right place. After all, I wanted to study public relations, not film public relations. Professor Halliday was understanding and helped me to sign up for public relations courses.
Despite my lack of interest in the technical line of work I thoroughly enjoyed the creative aspects of the class, especially when we produced, filmed, and edited our own short film based on a provided script. Having complete creative liberty led to my short film Brick Alley.

I also filmed and edited this news package about issues with housing conditions on campus.

Here are two more projects, a sports reel and a news package.
