MUSC 225 – Introduction to International Music

This is a course I enjoyed in ways I cannot adequately describe. I’ve always been passionate about music and its forms on a global scale, so I went into this class expecting big things and was thoroughly satisfied.

My favorite thing from this course was actually the final paper. Most students dread final exams and essays but this particular topic was so interesting that I enthusiastically took to my research and writing. We were to write an essay on the music traditions of a culture which was not covered in class or in our textbook. I chose to explore the music traditions of Ukraine and how they are incorporated into contemporary Ukrainian pop music. The ability to research and study music that I already enjoy was really a gift and I can say wholeheartedly that this is a class I would not mind taking again and again.
