In terms of scholar activities and academic performances, my freshman year was full of ups and downs. Indeed, the adaptation to college rhythm was really challenging throughout the entire first semester of my freshman year. On the other hand, the second semester was much more comfortable. I believe it’s fair to say it was a semester rich in consistency. One of the highlights of such a bipolar year happened during the fall semester at the Model U.N. convention in Washington D.C. where we (I and 11 other students) represented Longwood University as the delegation of the Kingdom of Thailand. I and Chris Siefke formed the Trade and development committee (UNCTAD), and we participated in drafting as well as the passage of resolution UNCTAD 1/1 on minimizing the negative effect of Globalization. I had the chance to have a first-hand experience of international diplomacy procedures as well as the pleasure to meet actual French speakers. Jokes aside, this convention showed me the preponderance of cooperation and compromise in international affairs. I am truly grateful for Dr. Cole and the Political Science department for this opportunity that I wish to continue for upcoming years.
