It took me quite a while to start this subject concerning the community because I am mildly reluctant to the idea of the being represented by a group instead as an individual. While one should be held accountable for their actions, guilt by association and hasty generalizations are easy mistakes most people commit in regard to a group of people. With that being said, I still think it is extremely important for a person to find and adhere the best-fitting community depending on the attributes and principles they value and cherish. Community represents family, provides support, and more importantly helps build strong bridges among populations to foster cooperation with others.
Since my arrival at Longwood, I have been exposed to several groups of people ranging from residency, academics, and soccer teammates. My inclusion in these small communities has been possible because of my presence on campus. Therefore, in a way, Longwood University is the real Community we all live under while cultivating the ideals of being a citizen leader. From academic opportunities to social events, Longwood has a broad range of traditions and values that bind us together as a family ready to make our lancer community better through altruism and academic devotion. In addition to this bigger family, I have formed a strong bond with a little coalition of people (mostly seniors and Juniors) in the Political Science department for whom I have a lot of admiration. Their hard work and dedication perfectly match Longwood’s standards of academic and civic leadership that I wish to inspire in others for the following years.
