I took this class in the spring of 2017.
I always find honors classes more enjoyable than my general education courses because I know all of my classmates. It allows for open discussions and alleviation of social fears. This held true for my Growth and Development course, or Education 245. My professor loved class discussions and hearing our thoughts on the theories of development, so much of our class time was spent speaking in front of others. By the end of the semester, this safe environment encouraged me to speak up in my other classes as well.
Through the course material, I learned a lot about the social, cognitive, and behavioral development I had observed while working at a daycare the year before. For example, I did a research project on the importance of “natural” play. Already, I knew play was integral for a child’s development, but I wasn’t sure how. I researched the cognitive, social, and physical benefits of play and created a blog. Images are attached below.
