ENGL 326

ENGL 326: British Literature Restoration to Romanticism

This was my final Honors enhancement that I had to complete to earn my Honors credit. Dr. Taylor advised me through one of the most challenging projects I have ever completed- a comparison of John Locke’s and Voltaire’s views on religious tolerance. Already a complex topic, the views of these two philosophes was even more complex. The research I compiled led me to believe that both John Locke and Voltaire felt “current” uses of religious dogma in fanatical and often dangerous ways, but they differed in how religion should be used moving forward. Voltaire was deistic while Locke continued to promote Christianity.

Even now I find this topic complex and outside of comfort zone, but that is why I am glad I completed this enhancement. I am a stronger scholar for it.

Below is the final draft.
