Goal 3- English 201 (World Literature)

I took this course in Spring 2017. I signed up for World Literature in order to meet my general education requirements, but I quickly discovered this class had much more to offer me.

We read various works spanning from the Epic of Gilgamesh to Don Quixote. By reading these various texts, spanning across thousands of years and various cultures, I learned to be open-minded about the similarities humankind shares. Many civilizations, for example, share an idea of a “creation story.” Although cultures have our individual differences, at our roots, we are really the same.

Besides learning to be open-minded, I also improved upon my reading comprehension because I was initially very challenged by the difficult texts. I had to learn how to slow down and really focus on what I was reading to understand the plot as well as the themes.

Below is an example of some of the analytical thinking I was able to accomplish after improving upon my reading comprehension.
