Professional Development

During my the spring semester of my junior year (February-May 2022) I was able to have my first real-life experience in the classroom, learning to do what I love. I did not have an internship experience my sophomore year because I already had credit for that class from taking a dual enrollment class in high school. I was place at Providence Elementary School in Chesterfield, Va in a third grade classroom. I had a really amazing and supportive CT, Ms. Ramey, who was eager to show me the ropes. She always included me, always listened to me, and never made me feel like I was not capable of greatness. The students really became my students and I felt like I was a part of a team. I learned a lot in that classroom and it also proved to me that I am, without a doubt, meant to be a teacher. I got to do all of the fun things, like run with them at recess, have lunch with them, dance with them, and share who I was them. I got to do all of the important things, like go to staff meetings, lesson plan with the third grade team, help make decisions about special cases, and prepare the students for standardized testing. Along the way, we all taught each other so many things. I think about these students and my CT all of the time. I also think about my professors through the bundle experience, Dr. Tackett and Dr. Long, who always pushed me to be my best. I think those two made my bundle experience what it was. They always made sure I was confident in myself. They always told me they were proud of me. Most importantly, they made me feel like I was exactly where I needed to be. As I look back at this experience, I am eternally grateful for it.

All of my adventures are highlighted in this portfolio we kept throughout the year. It highlights all of the days where I was happy, unsure, and overwhelmed. Most of all, it shows my journey to become confident and proud. I cannot wait to see what my senior year brings in the classroom. I hope to touch many lives and teach many bright students.
