ASL 210: Beginning Integrated Language and Culture

This perspectives course was a continuation of ASL 110. To learn new vocabulary and phrases, we would practice signing scripts like these ones with different partners in the classroom. It really forced you learn the material and it was surprising to me that I could recall so many signs without practicing much outside of class.

Prior to taking this course, I had not taken art since middle school and naturally, I was worried about being in this class alongside many talented art majors. I was surprised to learn that there is a lot more to art than creating. In the course, we did a lot of reading and discussing in order to facilitate an understanding of the concepts behind different projects. I also learned how to give good feedback to other people while taking constructive criticism from others about my own work.

ENSC 315: Climate Change

I was excited to take this course because I have read a few books about the environment and wanted to learn more about mitigation and policies that would be beneficial to decreasing the impacts of climate change. It was really interesting to be able to connect the topic back to my major and research how the effects of climate change can harm people’s physical and mental health.

In health psychology, we studied the socioecological model to understand the diverse factors that can contribute to the health and well-being of different individuals. With this in mind, we learned about different intervention methods clinicians can use to facilitate healthy behavior changes. We put what we learned to practice by applying an intervention plan to change one of our own behaviors. I chose to increase my physical activity with a stimulus control intervention plan. The final product is the above research paper detailing the results of this intervention on modifying my behavior.
