Biography

Hello, my name is James Cox, student of Cormier Honors College (class of 2021/2022).  I come from outside of Blackstone, Virginia, from where I commute to Longwood for classes.   My interests lie largely in the study and application of the natural sciences, such as in physics, engineering and chemistry; I am currently declared as a physics major with a minor in mathematics.  I must say that while I feel secure in the sciences, I find classes in the humanities more difficult and aim to take such classes as I can in them to challenge myself.  My main hobby and greatest solace is driving (which works well seeing as I commute!).  I plan to begin accruing tools and knowledge to fix cars myself and eventually brew my own biofuel, as I want to help mitigate my impact on the planet.  I am also an active member of Longwood’s chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, in which I chair a recurring twice-weekly project volunteering at a horse rescue (White Bird Appaloosa Rescue) in Burkeville, VA.  I can occasionally be found as part of the local Farmville or Midlothian, VA music scene.  While my goals for the future are not yet clear, they may involve research and development work with my future B.S. in physics, and/or going to graduate school for further education in physics or engineering.
