Dr. Tom Akre, associate professor of biology, is author of “Troubled Times for Turtles” that appears in the spring 2012 issue of The Piedmont Virginian. Akre “and a group of biologists and students have teamed up with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to preserve wood turtles as an integral part of our Commonwealth’s heritage. They are working to find out where wood turtles can still be found in the northern Piedmont and how they can cooperate with landowners to safeguard their habitats.”
