LSTU 300 Resume

As I am interested in the Assistant Teacher position available, I am attaching my resume for review. This resume includes experience, education, other information, and references. Under the experiences section, there are detailed descriptions of the different skills I acquired while working. While I gained a great amount of experience in many areas while working both jobs, I narrowed these experiences down. I narrowed these experiences down based on the job I am applying to, Assistant Teacher. All of the skills I listed throughout my resume are skills I feel can be implemented in the assistant teacher position.

As I have gained experiences both in the classroom and outside of the classroom, I feel prepared for the many obstacles teaching has to offer. Because of the time permitted, I have only been given limited amounts of experience in the classroom. Although this is the case,  I am hoping to gain endless amounts of experience in the classroom as an assistant teacher, to eventually become a teacher. I believe in the importance of hands-on experiences and believe that if given this assistant teacher position, experiences would be readily available. This experience will not only give me practice in the classroom but also practice working with children. Working with children is something I have enjoyed from an early age and feel I can bring positivity to the education community.

Data Analysis Project

For the first data analysis I completed, I decided to analyze data on occupations for Zip Code 23703. I chose this Zip Code because this is the Zip Code in which I live. While analyzing a great amount of data, I was able to narrow down the data, eliminating any unnecessary information.  While narrowing down the data, I was able to make a chart which displayed the data perfectly. This chart, displaying the data using bars, shows the availability of certain occupations within the Zip Code 23703. As this availability is shown, it is clear which occupations are more available than others. For example, occupations for management, business, science, and arts are much more available than occupations for any other field. As I am planning on staying in the area after graduation, I will keep this data in mind when applying for jobs in the real world.

For the second data analysis I completed, I decided to analyze data on school enrollment for Zip Code 23703. As I kept the Zip Code the same for both data analyses, I changed the topic to learn more about the area in which I am living. After conducting research and analyzing a great amount of data on this topic, I feel more knowledgeable on school enrollment numbers within my area. While gaining more knowledge during the completion of this data analysis, it is clear to me that school enrollment is higher in lower education than higher education. Similar to the first data analysis I completed, I eliminated unnecessary information. This portion of the data analysis became extremely important as displaying data for the intended audience is the main focus. When displaying information for the intended audience, it is important to arrange the information in a comprehensive way, while also grasping their attention.

Because I did not become a Psychology minor until this past semester, I have only taken one Psychology course, Introduction to Psychology. In addition to a Liberal Studies course, I am enrolled in all Psychology courses next semester: Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Adolescent and Adult Development, and Cross-Cultural Psychology. In these courses, I am hoping to gain additional skills necessary for working with children and a better understanding of how children think, play, and learn. Throughout my education courses, I have been given a large amount of experience working in the classroom setting. In these courses, I was given practice on writing lesson plans and adapting them based on student needs. I plan on taking this practice and applying it to my work one day.

About Me

As I reflect on my past experiences and my education, it is very clear to me that the way I interact with children is a strength. While working as a babysitter and summer camp counselor, I have experienced difficult situations involving children. These difficult situations were challenging at first but seemed to become easier with time. As I was dealing with more difficult situations throughout my babysitting and summer camp counseling jobs, I gained the knowledge the prepare me for future difficult situations. In addition to these experiences, my education at Longwood University has only further enhanced my skillset. While being at Longwood, I have developed confidence in my leadership abilities. Joining Greek life opened an endless amount of leadership opportunities for me and I decided to take one, feeling far more prepared after doing so. While taking on a leadership position in my sorority, I was involved in endless amounts of team-building. I was able to take these same practices and apply them when working with my summer campers. The methods were very successful and provided additional confidence in the relationships I formed.

Prior to my experience working with children, I worked as a receptionist and in the food service industry. Both of these opportunities provided me with experiences in dealing with all kinds of people and the importance of customer service. These are both important skills when working with children. While working as a babysitter and summer camp counselor, I was able to apply these skills. In addition to my job experiences and education, I enjoy working with children and have found it to be my passion. Working with children comes naturally to me.

Why Bully?

Have you ever been bullied or witnessed someone being bullied? Chances are you will answer yes to either one of those questions or both. Bullying has become more of an issue year after year. It is extremely important for everyone to become aware of the issue of bullying, especially those working around children. If members of society are not aware of the issue of bullying, they may become less likely to spot an issue when one arises. If bullying is not spotted, how can we stop it from happening? As members of society, we need to work together to prevent bullying at all costs and therefore, promote bullying awareness.  If we are able to recognize early signs of bullying and stop it from getting worse, we will become closer to our goal of preventing it completely. On the other hand, if we are not able to recognize early signs of bullying and instances worsen, we will become farther away from our goal. If this becomes the case, more children will become victims of bullying. Becoming a victim of bullying may increase a child’s level of depression, suicide attempts, anxiety, and many more issues. Is this what we want to happen? No, we do not want this to happen and therefore, we need to step up and make a change. We need to prevent bullying at all costs and make sure children are comfortable and safe in their surroundings at all times.
