In the third LIFE STEM Seminar, every student gave a presentation over zoom on a career path in which they were interested in pursuing. Students were given several weeks to create a PowerPoint presentation and a handout that corresponds with the topic. To the next cohort, I would advise you to start and give the presentations as soon as possible. The end of the semester is always hectic and stressful, so you would be doing yourself a favor to schedule the presentations early in the semester. Also, take the practice presentation seriously. You will get valuable feedback from your peers and professor. You might find that you want to cram all of the information onto the PowerPoint but the handout is what viewers will be taking home. Make sure to include all important information on the handout and discuss it in the presentation. The audience may forget how many years a certain degree requires but can always find it later in the handout. Lastly, do not be so hard on yourself. The purpose of this class is to force you to research your chosen career path and figure out what your next steps are. It is okay if you are not as close to the finish line as everyone else, as long as you keep moving forward.
This brochure was part of my presentation on How to Become a Radiologist. I decided to include overall education requirements to inform viewers of how long the path really is, but added specifics of what will be necessary to get into medical school so that students know what they should be doing now. I felt that it should be loaded with information since the intended audience was underclassmen at Longwood. The color scheme was chosen to complement the dark rooms that radiologists are know to work in as well as the blue and white that show up on scans.
