Professional Development Presentation: Reaching and Engaging ELs
This is a professional development presentation designed to inform educators on ways to engage EL students in the classroom using a strategy called “Modeled Talk”.
Literacy Plan
This is a literacy plan designed collaboratively based on real-life assessment data. The plan analyzes the data from the school to determine and describe a literacy plan that is chosen to be implemented by the school based on the students’ literacy needs from a literacy coach/reading specialist perspective.
Rationale
As a reading/literacy specialist, professional learning skills and leadership qualities are necessary in order to lead peers to benefit student learning. The professional development presentation I made regarding Reaching and Engaging ELs demonstrates my “knowledge of adult learning to engage in collaborative decision making with colleagues” through interactive strategies and presentation techniques (ILA 6.2). This was a way for me to “demonstrate leadership and facilitation skills when working with individuals” through the presentation that was viewed by my peers (ILA 6.3). The literacy plan was a way to “reflect on professional practices” and act as “critical consumers of research, policy, and practice” (ILA 6.1). Both artifacts helped to enhance my skills by working with colleagues to produce professional presentations and reports.
