Unit Text Set

This is a text set designed for a 4th grade unit on ecosystems. The text set provides resources for students on, below, and above grade reading level. The set is aligned with one 4th grade science SOL and includes a variety of media, including videos and songs.

 

Rationale 

Knowledge of learners and the literate environment are essential when entering a classroom or learning environment in order to use best practice to meet the needs of students. The artifacts show examples of taking the needs of all students in mind when creating units and lessons. The Blendspace resources “provide opportunities for student choice and engagement with a variety of print and digital materials to engage and motivate all learners” through different mediums of information (ILA 5.2). The unit text set “integrates digital technologies into their literacy instruction” through the accompaniment of videos and songs along with texts (ILA 5.3). the different levels of text included “meets the development needs of all learners” as it includes students below, on, and above grade reading levels (ILA 5.1). Both artifacts work to “foster a positive climate that supports the physical and social literacy-rich learning environment” through the inclusion of engaging resources (ILA 5.4).
