Common Good Project

The Common Good Project was the final project of the class. It was a culmination of a lot of research and what I had learned from doing the Rhetorical Analysis and the Course Journals. The course outcomes that were executed by doing this project were: 1) Engage in the process of citizen leadership by investigating multiple perspectives on important public issues, 2) understand the nature of public discourse/debate as determined by purpose, audience, and context, 3) choose appropriate formats in writing for a variety of purposes, 4) analyze the effectiveness of their own texts and processes for specific rhetorical situations, and 5) understand how the knowledge, skills, and values learned in general education are interwoven and interrelated, and how they can contribute to the process of citizen leadership. I felt that with this project, me and my group executed each course outcome as intended. I benefited from working in a group, as it made my skills in that regard much higher than it had been. I was able to implement acting as a citizen leader by presenting this public issue to the class. This also sparked an understanding for debate, as a brief debate came across after our presentation. Finally, as the Rhetorical Analysis and Course Journals showed me, I was able to once again implement 3, 4, and 5. The Rationale Statement was the perfect way to show each rhetorical strategy used. All in all, this project was one that was completely beneficial to my understanding of being a better citizen leader by way of using rhetorical devices.
