Correspondence

Practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to types of writing that are unfamiliar. Through the letters in the correspondence packet, I practiced core skills needed in professional writing. By creating the bad news letter and the persuasive letter, I practiced writing professional writing genres commonly found in the professional world, which is the first course outcome. Giving bad news and persuading others are two things that most people are not used to doing on their own, which is why practicing these skills is so important. Through this activity, I strengthened my letter writing skills and became more comfortable with professionally giving bad news or persuading others. These two exercises not only provided opportunities to practice the proper letter format, but also to practice plain English, which is used very often in professional writing and is part of the second course outcome. Overall, I used the correspondence packet to increase my letter writing skills and enhance my ability to communicate uncomfortable topics in a courteous and effective manner.
