The Common Good Project was centered around the problem of global poverty and how it has such a lasting impact on those that are affected by it. The group decided to divide the broad category of global poverty into three subcategories: world hunger, clean water, and everyday violence. We chose the subcategories because we felt that each one played a role in the spread and development of poverty but also how poverty often leads to those subcategories as well. The thing that was shocking was the fact that each aspect of global poverty seemed to be interconnected; as if each component of global poverty seemed to effect the others. The major takeaway from the project was that we, as citizen leader, can make a lasting difference in the world; all that is required is that we simply apply ourselves and to show compassion to those around us. I learned that although global poverty is a problem that will not be fixed overnight, if we take the necessary steps to help slow the spread then one day we might live in a world where no one experiences poverty.
