The independent variable, socioeconomic status was measured through the parent’s highest achieved level of education. This was re-coded into two groups, less than college (some high school, high school diploma/GED, trade/vocational school) and college (some college, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, graduate degree or more). The dependent variable, enjoyment, was measured on a scale of 0-10, with 0 representing no enjoyment and 10 representing a high level of enjoyment. At first glance, there appears to be a minor difference between the means, with the less-than-college category representing slightly higher levels of enjoyment than those with college-level education. However, the t-test results have proven this to be negligible, there is no significant difference between the means at p<0.05.
