Lesson Plan
Purpose of Session
Discuss the importance of the past sessions discussing, anxiety, depression, and pregnancy stressors and how these can influence each other and the participants mental health
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Discuss how not only psychological factors can affect mental health, but so can environmental factors.
Discuss Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and how lacking in one physiological stage can prevent the advancement to the next stage which can cause potential mental health stressors; they are also lacking in safety needs due to lack of resources
Discuss what each stage consists of
Activity
Direct participants to get in small groups that consist of four members each and provide them with a variety of examples relating to the five stages of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
After getting into small groups, participants will then match the statements given to them to the correct stage (ex.: participants will put “shelter” under physiological needs)
Discussion
Discuss how Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs influences one’s pregnancy stressors, anxiety, and depression
Closing
Facilitators will ask if participants have any questions or concerns
Facilitators will then give a brief introduction of what will be discussed in the next session

- Slips of paper discussing terms and statements
- Whiteboard to write the stages
- Tape or magnets for participants to use to stick terms and statements under corresponding stages
