Correspondence

This assignment required me to experiment with two modes of professional correspondence: memos and letters. Using hypothetical situations, I implemented rhetorical strategies to deliver bad news to employees and request a change in the community from a concerned citizen’s point of view. These letters implemented the AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action) organizational strategy which focuses on holding the attention of readers and persuading them to take action towards a cause. The bad news letter challenged me to present avoid negative language and present an alternative solution to a current issue without lowering the morale of the company’s employees. When writing my letter to the councilman, I used the rhetorical appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos to persuade the councilman to fill in the potholes of my hypothetical neighborhood. In writing these letters, I learned valuable rhetorical techniques that I will implement into my professional career.
