Public Speaking

My first Communications course at Longwood was Public Speaking. Through this class, I learned how to write and deliver speeches. I was also able to practice persuasion techniques and focus on my nonverbal communication. Through this class, I learned that I have stronger speaking skills than I initially thought and that I am very comfortable speaking in front of a crowd.

Some of my favorite activities I completed in this course were our “impromptus”. Every student picked a topic out of a bag and we had to deliver a speech on that topic with little time to prepare. Through these exercises, I learned how to organize speeches efficiently and think on my feet. I was also able to become more comfortable speaking in front of a group.
