I found a book called the Social Network which is about the story of Mark Zuckerburg and talks about how he and his friends accidentally founded facebook in college. This is my example of traditional text. The book is a paper copy book that can be found in most bookstores and if not that then it can be found in amazon. This book is about two hundred and fifty pages long and was apparently a national bestseller. The Social Network book was then made into a movie a few years later. It was written in 2009 by the author Ben Mezrich. Everything said in the book is true and it is all telling a realistic story. The piece of writing that I found that was digital writing is an article about the same topic called “The History of Facebook : from Basic to Global Giant”. This article is about nine pages long if you keep scrolling down and tells the same story about how Mark Zuckerburg founded Facebook. When comparing these two there are more differences than similarities. A similarity between these two pieces of digital and traditional writing is that they both tell the story from start to finish and are in chronological order based on sequences of events from the true story. I chose two pieces that are about the same story so another similarity would be that they both tell the same story. Another similarity between these two is how they both give many dates and times of when certain events happened in Mark Zuckerburgs life. Differences between these two pieces of writing would be the lengths. The paper copy of the story goes way deeper and tells much more of the story than the digital writing does because I feel like it is easier to read long text if it is in the form of a book rather than if it is on a website. Reading on a computer or piece of technology can feel like forever because you just keep scrolling down and you don’t get the satisfaction of turning the page of a real paper copy book. Another difference between the two is that the digital version is way more colorful and has pictures. The only thing colorful about the traditional version of text is the front cover and from there on it’s just words on a page. Reading off of something with color and pictures can be more appealing to the eye and could make a reader wanna read it more than if it is just dragging on with a page full of words and no pictures. If someone were to choose to read digitally then they also get the chance to watch videos and listen to audios because some articles and pieces of digital text put videos in there. For example this digital version of the story has a couple videos in it the further you scroll down and that’s something you can not get in a book. Studies have also shown that people who read off a digital text have a harder time remembering the contents of the writing because the brain processes information differently when it is digital.
