Goal 4: Aesthetic Express Studio Art (ART 125)

As a senior in high school, I took AP Studio Art, since art has always been near and dear to my heart; however, when I came to Longwood I had no expectation of doing any sort of artwork since I just never had the time and it was not my major. With this Studio Art class, I was able to rekindle my love for art as well as grow personally and artistically. This course was split into 3 sections: papermaking, ceramics, and drawing. Although the picture shown to the right is my work from papermaking, I found ceramics to be my favorite. I have never been the type to enjoy clay, but I did learn to focus on my goals set by my professor, Adam Paulek, and grew a better liking for ceramics. Paulek even asked me to consider minoring in ceramics, but sadly, I did not have the free time to be in the studio every day of the week for multiple hours.

In the above picture, it looks like one piece, yet it took me 3 layers of stencils to create it. I had never done anything quite like it before and we had to make a stencil by the end of the semester to add to the book we hand-made. With many prototypes, I was able to create the final piece and love that I was able to expand my art skills.
