This class is the capstone course for the Neurostudies minor which focuses on how neuroscience can be used in many different fields and how we can use it to impact our community. For our community outreach project, my group went to some of our club sports teams and explained the danger of concussions. Personally, I have had more than one concussion and I know the impact that it has had on my life since then. I get upset when people don’t take concussions seriously and in the sports that we went to (lacrosse, rugby, and soccer) the risk for concussion is high. All the groups we went to were very receptive and that made me proud. Our team (lacrosse) started caring more about putting goggles on during practice so that if a ball did hit you, there is some protection. I’m glad I was a part of something that made such an impact.
