Transition program for new Pell-Eligible First Generation Students
This is an immersive program occurring 2-3 days prior to New Lancer Days designed specifically for first-generation, Pell-eligible incoming students. By arriving early, students can form peer connections, learn about campus resources, and build confidence navigating academics and campus life. Efforts continue through the fall semester to provide student support and targeted programs. Student outreach. support is also provided during the spring semester.
The F1RST Lancers Graduate Assistant provides primary support this program.
The position is supervised by the Associate VP for Student Engagement and Initiatives and also works closely with the Director of Student Achievement and Support.

The GA position will support College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS) administrative functions related to clinical placements, assessment, and accreditation for CEHHS programs. Reporting to the Associate Dean of CEHHS, the GA will help with a variety of administrative tasks including data collection and visualization, research for best practices, special event preparation, and editing.

The graduate assistant will assist in delivery of suicide prevention trainings, participate in other meetings, and coordinate social media campaigns and outreach activities. The graduate assistant will be supervised primarily by the project coordinator and will support the overall program as needed. The social media management aspect of this position is targeted to promote suicide prevention efforts, create awareness of available trainings, and disseminate anti-stigma messages and community outreach activities. This includes the responsibility of tracking the utilization / visit rate / responses to the social media platforms. Additional tasks and duties will include general support such as document organization, records management, and training session preparation.

The Longwood Recovers Graduate Assistant oversees the weekly support services provided by this program, as well as planning events, coordinating with other entities on campus, and supporting data collection for the SAMHSA/DBHDS grant that funds the position. Longwood Recovers is one of several Campus Recovery Programs across the state that create community and provide individualized support for individuals in recovery from substance use and other addictive behaviors (such as eating struggles, non-suicidal self-injury, or technology use addictions). This program also supports non-abstinence recovery goals, harm reduction, and provides education about wellness and recovery. The program supports students, faculty/staff, and the community through a variety of services, including individual recovery planning, support group facilitation, and event planning. A successful candidate will receive support and training from the program director, an experienced addiction counselor. This is an in-person position. Remote work is not available.

The Center for Cyber Security seeks a Graduate Assistant to design new technology-related events such as hack-a-thons and cybersecurity-related competitions that will showcase Longwood programs and capabilities throughout our region. The Graduate Assistant will work under the guidance of Center faculty and will maintain a consistent office presence when faculty are teaching or in meetings. The Graduate Assistant will interface with external program stakeholders, current students, and prospective students.

Career Success Graduate Assistants are a critical part of the operation of Longwood University’s Center for Career Success. GAs support general office administration and are provided training in Career Coaching techniques to provide direct services to students through one-on-one career counseling and readiness appointments. GAs also assist in managing the Center’s “Dress for Success” Career Closet, support campus career events (professional panels, career fairs and professional networking meet-and-greets), provide classroom and workshop presentations, and work collaboratively with the alumni engagement team.

This GA position works with Longwood LIFE to add support to students in the Longwood LIFE program and to the program overall. Duties to support Longwood LIFE students include providing scaffolding and supervision needed in classes and in job coaching. The GA and other work study students provide prompting and take data on student progress. They write progress reports to help students grow. Additional duties with students include serving as student mentors with adding support for communication and effective relationship building. The job also includes working with the director and program aide on creating schedules, working with job coaches, and contacting parents about program events. Assistance with creating and planning program events is needed throughout the year. This job requires availability 9-5 on Wednesdays and Fridays during the 12-week Longwood LIFE semesters.
