How do I add my blog to the course site?

If you have created a new blog (e.g., for English 400 course) please follow the scenario A. If you are re-using your blog for another course (e.g., comm325), then follow the scenario B.

Scenario A: if you have created a new blog and would like to link it to the instructor’s course blog:

a. Sign in to Longwood Blogs and open your instructor’s course blog and your personal blog you’ll be using for class in two separate tabs/windows.

b. Copy the web address (URL) of your personal blog in a public view

c.  Navigate to your instructor’s course blog and locate  2 boxes under Add Link/Add Your Blog on the side column

d. Paste the following into two boxes:

  • 1st box– the URL address of your blog site, e.g., http://blogs.longwood.edu/smithjane
  • 2nd box–your name (first/last), e.g., Jane Smith
  • Click on Add Link and your name will show up under Links

Scenario B: if you are re-using the same blog for another course:

Watch the video or follow directions below:

a. Open your class blog and your personal blog you’ll be using for class in two separate tabs/windows.

b. When you are ready to post your first blog entry, make sure you have tagged the post with the tag designated for your class, e.g., comm325. A “Tags” area will be below or to the right of your main text area where you write your blog post.

c. Back on your class blog, you will notice three boxes on the right hand side. Fill in your Link URL (e.g., blogs.longwood.edu/LUstudent), your Name (first and last) and if your instructor has created it:

  • your blog feed URL. This is the ‘magic formula’ that will make the connection between your blog and the class blog. It’s your blog URL + tag/yourtag/feed. Follow this example: blogs.longwood.edu/LUstudent/tag/comm325/feed

d. Click Add Link to submit your information. Your name should show up under Links on the right hand side.
