The Rhetorical Analysis let me explore and understand how to interpret information by engaging in what was talked about and what people expressed. My topic was “Why Video Games are Making Kids Smarter”. It allowed me to search from many different sources and it also helped me pick out the three logical appeals to the paper. The three logical appeals were ethos, pathos, logos. My topic was “Do video games make kids smarter?” and in fact if you pick the ones that have math, English, building, and communication skills they will help your child become smarter. The reason these games are good is because they help the kids with problem solving skills and also help them engage in communication skills. I thought this topic would be good to learn and write about because I am someone who wants to go into the teaching carer.
When doing research on why games were helping kids become smarter shocked me because I was not sure how these games were helping, but the more I looked into them the more it became understandable. This paper was very different than how I have done all of my other english papers. This paper taught me to break things up into different sections and to use the right format. After finishing the drafts we had a peer look over it and they had gave us fed back on our work. This allowed me to make things sound better and fix my wording. I feel that I could have done a much better job on this paper, but I am not so sure if I really understood what was really being explained. I would say that I could really improve on using my logical appeals more and understanding why it fits that appeal.
Overall, I did enjoy writing this paper and I liked the challenge of adding the logical appeals and fallacies into it. I did like learning about how some of the games that kids play can help them become smarter. Most people think that the games kids play are a waste of time but if you take the time to sit down with them and about learn about it then you will get a different perspective of how they are done.
