Reflection
This had to be one of my favorite classes at Longwood. I found out that I had a passion for learning about ecology and this class really challenged my perception of it. I thought going into the class I wasn’t going to enjoy it because in high school I didn’t enjoy learning about ecology. Dr. Leech changed that perception though because she made learning the material really fun. One of my favorite activities in the class was our wooly worm experiment. We were focusing on predator-prey interactions and basically we all became birds and were hunting wooly worms. It was a really fun activity and I learned a fair amount about the interactions. I think I discovered a passion that I did not even know I had. It also taught me that I want to take the biogeography course in the future. I also learned that I studied best in the library and Upchurch. I found those environments to be the most helpful, and when studying for tests I found it better to study with others because if I didn’t understand they could help me. Skills that I developed for the future are more public speaking skills. I feel like I became more confident in this by presenting a powerpoint at research day. The link to the powerpoint is below and I participated in research day with three of my classmates. We all had fun creating and completing our experiment.
