BIOL 250: Intro to Genetics and Cell Biology

Reflection

Biology 250 was a really hard class. I am the first to admit that I really struggled in the lecture. This class was taken in my second semester at Longwood. I had a lot of struggles going on personally at this time and it reflected in my work and effort in the classroom. Personally in the class and my experience in the classroom was pretty good. I felt like I tried to better myself as a student by spending more time reading in depth in the textbook. What surprised me was how much I felt like I focused in the lab and how much I yearned to learn new lab techniques. I think some of the things that i learned in the lab, i.e how to pipette with a micro-pipette, plating, and running pcr and gel have helped me in some of my other biology classes. I think what I learned was I really enjoy labs and being able to learn something new in the lab. The class also gave me the basics for public speaking to various audiences. I was able to present my research on yeast in various berries to the Longwood community at the 2019 Spring Research Showcase. Some adversity that I overcame was that fear of public speaking and Longwood gives so many opportunities to present and share ideas.

Below is a button with a link to my final paper for the class. It was the longest paper I had written and I am very proud of it. I spent the whole semester preparing bits and pieces of it. I think this paper is what really prepared me for my future biology classes and prepared me to become a better scientist.
