Lesson Plan
One of the main requirements of becoming a teacher is learning how to write detailed lesson plans. Attached is one such plan that states the curriculum framework for the current SOL, the essential question at the heart of the lesson being taught (In this case, it’s “How can students build their writing skills to allow for readers to fully understand the topic with word choice, details, and tone?”), appropriate bloom verbs, and a detailed and complete schedule of that day’s plan that, when completed, will allow students to accomplish their learning targets.
Instruction Model
One of the most important aspects of current writing instruction is incorporating technology. In today’s digital age, students are expected and encouraged to be able to communicate digitally. In this example, my team and I developed a short lesson plan on the appropriate usage of headers in a blog. This short Powerpoint introduced headers by defining the term and it’s use, models of headers being used in an effective way, and a call to action.
Substitute Handout Packet
In an event of an emergency with the teacher absent, the lesson must go on. However, students can be known to fail to complete assignments due to the substitute “not telling them what to do”. To circumvent this, the best way to make sure the essential understandings are, well, understood is to address the students themselves. Ergo, a packet with detailed instructions on that day’s goals and any necessary materials should always be prepared in advanced. In this lesson, the students are addressed in a friendly, casual way while including a motivational device, the activity/activities expected of them, and any previous documents they may have lost or forgotten as well as a self-assessment tool in the form of “I can…” statements as in the lesson plan.
