Service

Longwood hosts a lot of service projects throughout the semesters, providing plenty of opportunities to help out. One specific one I remember going to was early in my first semester, where we helped host a little fair at a dog shelter in order to raise money for it. My friend was assigned to wearing a big dog costume, which still makes me smile when I think about it.

I volunteered to be at the face painting table, even though I had no experience with face painting. They just needed someone to do it, so I offered. There were face paints and tattoos. Only one child wanted a face paint, which was of Blue from Blue’s Clues. I was not too proud of the final product, but the kid loved it and was very happy, so I was happy.

At the club fair in the beginning of the year, I saw many organizations that offered charity services, such as food drives and volunteering at various locations. I wanted to volunteer for the Zephyr Stables Riding and Rescue, however it was at the same time as my A Capella rehearsals. I still hope that I’ll be able to do it in the future.
