This course was really interesting to me. At first I had my doubts since I am not an education major, but I learned a lot of valuable information from taking this course.
This course focused on the educational system within the United States and provided background information as well as current events and statistics. We explored the educational system from its beginning and discussed how it impacted the later events and processes within modern education. We even talked about education within Farmville and how it was a major source of the civil rights movement.
Even though education is not my major, I still find myself using this information in my life. I am much more knowledgeable about the educational system and have gained a more informed opinion about it. I use this information in my daily life as well as incorporating it within my major.
Not only did I learn more about the educational system and all of the pros and cons within it; I also learned information from different disciplines can help improve your knowledge within your field. Taking this course made me realize how you can integrate different topics into what you are most interested in. Ever since I took this course, I find myself wanting to take more classes outside of my major to broaden my knowledge. You never know what kind of information you will use in your career, so I think learning about a myriad of topics is very useful. I am glad I took this course for the information I learned about the educational system, but also to teach me to broaden my horizons.
Above is my post study reflective essay. This essay focuses on school violence and what I had learned about it from taking this course. We also had to mention our pre study essay and say how our thoughts had stayed the same or changed. In this paper, I describe school violence from how it was explained in the class. I also cited a book we read throughout the semester to support my points.
