Rhetorical Analysis

Reflection:

For this project, I wrote a paper about the Taylor Swift music video “Look What You Made Me Do.” This assignment met Course Learning Outcomes two, three, four and five. This paper meets outcome number two, which states; understand the nature of public discourse/debate as determined by purpose, audience, and context. This paper was informative and persuasive in nature. I had to write the paper with an audience in mind, find a purpose for choosing the piece of rhetoric I chose to analyse and defend my statements with evidence by providing context. The second learning outcome this assignment met was number three, which states; choose appropriate formats in writing for a variety of purposes. I was required to meet certain requirements when writing this paper, such as length and what areas of rhetoric I should address. I had to adhere to writing standards and format my paper correctly. Course Learning Outcome number four states; analyze the effectiveness of their own texts and processes for specific rhetorical situations. This paper is my own intellectual property, I wrote it in order to address rhetoric and rhetorical situations by analyzing a piece of media and in turn analyzing how effectively I was able to discuss the piece of media. Lastly, this rhetorical analysis meets course outcome number five, which states; understand how the knowledge, skills, and values learned in general education are interwoven and interrelated, and how they can contribute to the process of citizen leadership. While this paper was intended to be written for the purposes of informing others, I was able to gain more knowledge by writing it and investigating the concepts of rhetoric further. All of the collective skills and knowledge that I had learned in class up until writing this paper helped me to understand the world around me from the standpoint of an active citizen. Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment, I was able to incorporate visuals and discuss the many elements of rhetoric within Swift’s music video.
