About Me

Born and raise in Portsmouth, Virginia, I am an aspiring teacher majoring in Liberal Studies with a Concentration in Special Education at Longwood University. My goal after graduating is to become a special education teacher. This desire manifested itself while I was a junior in high school. While working as a student aid in the special education class, I realized that I had a passion for serving those identified as exceptional.

One thing that I knew for sure, was that I wanted to work with children and to make a difference in someone’s life. Then it hit me that becoming a teacher I could do both of those things. As a future teacher, I hold the National Council of English Teachers Standards close to my heart. The four standards you will find here are: Composing occurs in different modalities and technologies: Examples of Different Lesson Plans… That include different writing modes, Writing is a process, Writing and Reading are Related, and Everyone has the capacity to write; writing can be taught; teachers can help students. I hold these standards in high regard because a future teacher I believe every single one of them is true. I believe that the writing process for students should include different modes and technology to help students in improving their writing. Second, I believe that writing is a process that all students need to know and use in their daily lives. Third, writing and reading are a family, there is not one without the other. Lastly, everyone has the capacity to write; writing can be taught; teachers can help students. This last goal holds a very special place in my heart because I truly believe that every student has the capacity to writing, and it is my goal as a future teacher to make sure they do.
