HONORS Education: Growth and Development

This class was really enjoyable as it applied to my major, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and my special education minor. I learned many new ideas and theories about child development. Two projects that we completed in class were the inquiry based project and the three ages paper. The inquiry based project was very interesting because we were allowed to choose a topic of our choice to research. I choose how lead poisoning effects the development of a child. This was around the same time as the Flint Michigan water crisis. I could relate my research project back to current events in the world. I researched how lead poisoning effects physical, cognitive, and social/personality growth. In the three ages project, we had to interview three children of various ages to recognize differences in development. My children were ages 5, 8 and 19. The project consisted of a paper and powerpoint presentation where comparisons of the children answers were evaluated using popular theories of development.
