French 211 taught me many things in my first semester of college. I had taken four years of french in high school but this class proved to be very different. First off, this class was very speaking intensive and even though my high school french classes were challenging, French 211 taught me so much more due to us being only allowed to speak in French during class. My professor for French 211 was Melanie Bowman. The course objectives included locating, evaluating, and organizing information from multiple disciplines to develop, refine, and address questions; articulating how different cultural perspectives influence an understanding of civic or global issues; collaborating with others to develop an informed perspective on a civic or global issue; reflecting on the processes used to develop perspectives and reach decisions; creating and delivering oral messages appropriate to audience, purpose, and context; and creating and delivering writing appropriate to audience, purpose, and context. Although this course wasn’t specific to my major I still think it helped me become more comfortable getting out of my comfort zone. As a nurse I will be put on the spot and will need to be comfortable in unpredictable situations that arise. The speaking intensive aspect of this class got me very comfortable with being put on the spot.
Artifact:
My artifact from French 211 is a fiction short story which I wrote for a creative writing assignment. This story in particular was to test our knowledge of varying vocabulary from units we had studied. I think this writing assignment is sufficient in showing what I learned throughout my whole semester in French 211 as well as my previous four years in high school.
