Honors Enhancement NURS 370: Nursing Care of the Older Adult

This spring semester I took a Nursing 370: Nursing Care of the Older Adult. I chose to enhance this class and I thought the honors enhancement process went very well. I found that the assignment was very applicable to both the Nursing 370 class as well as the current situation of our world. We had to interview the Piedmont Senior Resources and ask them questions about how COVID has changed the care they provide. With experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic for the past year, it is very important to understand how this has not only affected society as a whole but also the elderly population. I found this project to be very enlightening about how the pandemic has affected those who are considered elderly. Prior to this project, I was unaware of the number of services that the Piedmont senior Resources center provides to the seven surrounding counties. The man we interviewed, Jordan Miles, was very helpful in providing information about the services that the Piedmont Senior Resources provides. We learned a lot about how the COVID -19 pandemic has impacted those that they provide resources to. I found that it was encouraging to hear how their services have adapted to the pandemic to make sure that the elderly population in the seven surrounding counties are still able to remain living successfully in their homes. Some services they provide have stopped such as the congregate meals, which is where the elderly are picked up from their homes to have lunch together, but many services have increased to compensate for this loss. Overall, this honors enhancement helped me learn more about how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected and impacted the elderly.
